Music of the Early 1980's         The seeds for a change in music were planted in the early 80's. In 1981, the people in the music business were trying to determine what the music trends for the 1980's would be. Lionlel Richice was the first musician to produce the number one pop, R&B and country record in the same week, just his partner Diana Ross ("Endless Love") dominated the U.S. singles chart for nine weeks making Motown's largest selling single. The new turn for music in the 1980's was slowly coming alive. U2 got the attention of critics with Boy (1980) and October (1981). On the business view point on music, record sales were at a low. Companies started to use music videos as away to rescue themselves. Columbia Records created Colombia Video Enterprises to make music videos into advertising tools tool create interest in bands before they go on tour or create an album.

(         1982 is considered the year of a "Seconds British Invasion"- the first coming from the 1960's with bands such as The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. The groups like ABC, Depeche Mode, The Human League, Orchestral Manouvers in the Dark and Spanda Ballet introduced a New Pop sound that was not slow to dominate the charts. If change was taking place and no one could deny it. (         By 1983 the 80's produced the "New Music" being a blend of rock, soul, disco and reggae with a synthesizer type sound. Record sales were back up after the slump that was created in the late seventies. The new sounds brought the kids back to the record stores, clubs and concerts.
